Course Objective
The basic concepts of chemical and radioactive wastes, their sources, recycling, storage, chemical and radiation-induced effects on human and environmental health, and chemical and radiation protection methods are taught.
Brief Content of the Course
Sources of chemical wastes; ways of exposure to chemicals; environmental contamination with chemicals; toxic effects of chemicals, effects of chemicals on living things, effects of chemicals on the environment; radioactivity, radioactive half-life and radioactive contamination. To teach the basis and constraints of the concept of sustainable development, the importance of environmental economics, the cost-benefit criterion, economy-based policies and the environmental impacts they may create, sectoral policies, evaluation of the benefits and costs of environmental resources and the methods applied.
