Course Objective
Understanding the basic physics concepts and laws of physics, basic physical events. Understanding the concepts and laws of electricity and magnetism.
Brief Content of the Course
Charge and conservation, electrification, insulators and conductors, Coulomb's law, electric fields of discrete and continuous charges; Gauss's law; potential energy of a stationary charge (potential of discrete and continuous charges, potential difference, dielectrics, bonding and energy in capacitors); direct current (current, power sources, emf, resistors, energy and power, direct current circuits, structure of measuring instruments, use of electricity and safety); magnetic force and field (magnetic field interaction with live conductors and moving charges, Biot-Savart law; Hall phenomenon, magnetic properties of matter; Electromagnetic induction (Faraday's law, Lenz's law, self-induction, magnetic field energy, AC generators, electric motors, transformers, heat and temperature, thermal properties of matter (self-heat, thermal conductivity, thermal expansion), laws of thermodynamics, reversible and irreversible phenomena, efficiency and entropy) and open and closed-ended experiments on these topics. Discussion of energy transformations in the context of a sustainable future
