Course Objective
To teach students the concepts and principles of mineralogy, emphasizing the descriptive and systematic aspects of minerals that form the basis of geology. To teach the classification of minerals, especially rock-forming minerals, their usage areas and their environments. Considering the contribution of minerals to the economy, nature and therefore natural life, it is aimed to convey the importance of mineralogy to students in terms of sustainable economy and sustainable natural life.
Brief Content of the Course
Mineralogy definition, history, crystal-mineral definitions and formations of minerals. Physical and chemical properties of minerals. Methods for easy identification of minerals. Mineral analysis methods. Recognition of minerals in hand samples. Classifying minerals according to their characteristics, evaluating their economic importance and revealing their relationship with natural sciences. Systematic mineralogy. Mineralogy in terms of sustainable economy and sustainable natural life.
