The harvest of approximately 300 decares of barley and wheat planted on the agricultural application plots of our university's Ayhan Şahenk Agricultural Application and Research Center has begun.
Our university's Rector, Prof. Dr. Hasan Uslu, inspected the harvesting activities on-site and harvested the crop with a combine harvester.
2000 Decares of Land Reclaimed and Returned to Agriculture
Our university, which has accelerated its efforts to reclaim non-agricultural land over the past four years, has brought approximately 1000 decares of land to agriculture at the Ayhan Şahenk Agricultural Application and Research Center's main service campus. Additionally, 400 decares of land have been reclaimed on the main campus and 600 decares of land in the Altunhisar district, bringing the total land cultivation capacity to over 2000 decares.
These areas, which also conduct scientific research and development, offer practical training activities. In addition to meeting the needs of our Center's livestock sector, we also produce roughage for our city's livestock sector.
"We Will Continue to Contribute to the Production of Our Region and City"
Speaking at the harvest, Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Uslu stated that our country needs approximately 20-22 million tons of wheat annually, and that wheat is planted on approximately 7 million hectares nationwide, equivalent to 67,218 hectares in our province.
The Mission of a University That Produces and Provides Solutions
Noting that our university has reclaimed approximately 1,000 decares of land for agricultural use through its work in recent years, our Rector said, "As a leading institution of higher education in our country in the field of agriculture, we aim to become an international university that aims to solve regional problems and develop knowledge and technology to increase agricultural productivity. At our center, we will continue to prioritize research projects, workshops, congresses, and scientific meetings aimed at determining plant patterns suitable for the regional climate." Rector Uslu, who included the following statement, concluded, "I hope our harvest will be beneficial to our country and region. I hereby declare that we will continue to contribute to our country and region with our mission as a university that produces and provides solutions."
Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Hasan Uslu, took a commemorative photo with the students of our faculty who were monitoring the harvest and receiving hands-on training, and chatted with them.
