Modern Endodontic Services at the Faculty of Dentistry, Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University
The Department of Endodontics at the Faculty of Dentistry, Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University, provides services to citizens in an environment equipped with modern technologies for the preservation and treatment of dental health. The department, which focuses on the inner structures of the tooth, aims to prevent tooth loss through various procedures, primarily root canal treatment.
Dr. Zübeyde Gökçe Ürün, a faculty member from the Endodontics Department, explained that endodontics is a field focused on the treatment of issues related to the nerve and vascular structures of the tooth pulp and the roots. She stated, 'When decay progresses to the nerve tissue in the tooth or an infection develops, we clean the pulp inside the tooth and disinfect the canals to treat it. This way, we save the tooth and prevent the spread of infection.'
Emphasizing the importance of preserving teeth and avoiding extractions, Ürün said, 'Here, we apply treatments to keep the teeth healthy for a long time. After root canal treatment, we take protective measures to strengthen the tooth's structure. Our goal is to prevent tooth loss and keep the teeth functional and healthy in the mouth.'
Noting that root canal treatment requires working in a very small and delicate area inside the tooth, Ürün highlighted the importance of magnification devices in this process. 'Loupe magnification glasses provide 4.5-5.5 times magnification, and microscopes can magnify up to 40 times. With these devices, the dentist's working area is seen more clearly, allowing for thorough cleaning of infected tissues. This minimizes the risk of infection after treatment,' she said.
Dr. Zübeyde Gökçe Ürün also emphasized that endodontic treatments performed with advanced equipment play a crucial role in preventing tooth loss. She pointed out that methods supported by modern technology provide significant advantages in preserving patients' dental health in the long term.
