The Department of Economics in Ömer Halisdemir University started in 1991-1992 academic year. First degree in economics not only prepare students for a career as an economist in private or public sector, but will also be excellent preparation for a range of related careers such as accountancy, banking, academia and managerial jobs in general. The first year of the degree course aims to develop a set of skills in computing and to give essential foundation in the subject. It is possible to specialize completely in economics from the second year onwards and additional modules in economics are available as options from the third year. The undergraduate program courses are in Turkish.
The Bachelor’s Degree Program of the Department of Economics is 240 ECTS credits, 4-year program composed of eight semesters, each of which has a 30 ECTS workload. One ECTS equals to 30 hours of student workload per semester. The department has a young, dynamic and competent academic staff. 5 Professor, 4 Associate Professor,1 Assistant Professor,1 Lecturer, and 3 Research Assistant are currently employed. The department consists of 4 Divisions: Economic Theory, Politic Economics, Economic Development and International Economy, and Economic History.
In this program, freshmen take basic courses like introduction to business science, economics, accounting, business and economics mathematics, basic concepts of law, behavioral science, economic sociology, basic computer, Turkish language, Atatürk Principles and Revolution History and foreign language. Sophomores take professional courses in addition to some formation courses such as, public finance, microeconomics, macroeconomics, history of Turkish economics, statistics, labor economics, fiscal policy, principles of marketing. Students who pass their year by completing studying the fundamentals of economics concentrate on their future studying areas. Senior students who pass their fourth year by choosing related courses from the divisions of Economic Theory, Politic Economics, Economic Development and International Economy, and Economic History graduate having a degree in economics.
The Department of Economics of Ömer Halisdemir University Faculty of Economics and Administrative sciences is located in the central campus area. The aim of the faculty is to raise thinking and examining individuals with the support of well- equipped classes and computer labs.
Aim and Objectives
AIMS
To raise expert personnel with scientific managerial skills who leads to the production of high quality products and supporting service by transferring the basic knowledge of economics through the applications of Public and Private sector.
OBJECTIVES
Basic goal of our department is to raise individuals with entrepreneurial spirit, self-confident, who have scientific and social competence which is also supported by scientific thinking and leading abilities, who also have wisdoms of interdisciplinary skills with managerial ingenuity which is encouraged by innovative and unique problem solving techniques. By this way it is expected to increase in the employment of the graduate students. To be in the first 10 in the national and international exams, to involve in national and international supported projects, publish articles in the academically cited journals and publishing books can be counted as primary goals.
Level of Qualification and Qalification Awarded
Upon successful completion of this program, students are awarded with the qualification of BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN ECONOMICS.
A Bachelor's Degree Program in ECONOMICS is a 240 ECTS Credits, 4-year program. The program meets the requirements by both the ECTS credits and level descriptors of the first cycle degree qualifications of the Overarching Framework of European Qualifications Framework HE(QF-EHEA) and the 6th level qualifications of the Turkish Qualifications Framework for HE (TYYÇ, NQF-HETR). The level descriptors also meet the 6th level requirements of the qualifications of the European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (EQF-LLL).
Specific Admission Requirements
Admission of national students to the ECONOMICS program is contingent on success on the nationally centralized Student Selection Examination (OSYS) conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (OSYM). Candidates who succeed on the LYS examination (Undergraduate Placement Examination) are enrolled according to their type TM-1 score preferences.

Specific Arrangement s for Recognition of Prior Learning
With an understanding of lifelong learning, Ömer Halisdemir University recognizes the previously taken courses in another institution and exempts them from graduation credit, as long as the courses match with the learning outcomes of the registered programme at Ömer Halisdemir University. The learning outcome match and the exemption are decided by the Faculty Board in line with the related laws and regulations.
Profile of the Programme
To contribute national economy by raising economics’ students for Public and Private Sectors in service and manufacturing industry and by the duty, to increase life quality with the consumption of high quality products and services to raise accountants, auditors, self-employees and who can attend high level managerial positions in public sector.
Department of Economics has been established with a mission to provide the students a high quality program to follow and learn latest developments and at the same time to participate actively in applied and theoretical research.
Undergraduate (Bachelor's Degree) program in Economics (First Cycle in QF-EHEA and 6th level in TYYÇ ) is an academically-oriented program giving access to degree and non-degree research program and professional practice demanding high levels of knowledge and skills. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples
The students who graduate from the department may have independent professions with the titles like independent accountant, financial adviser or they can work as a staff that is preferred in service, tourism and industry sectors. Our graduates may find employment opportunities in Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s), in large scale companies and multinational companies and they can work in many areas such as accounting, market research, production, marketing, after sales services, planning, management and control according to their individual interests and preferences. If they succeed in public personnel selection examinations, they are appointed to career jobs such as supervisor, controller, regulator, expert etc. as well as senior manager positions in the state institutions and organizations; or they may work as clerks. The graduates who have the required conditions can enter the administrative justice judgeship exam and if they succeed at the written exam by Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM) and the oral exam by The Ministry of Justice, they can take charge as administrative judge. Our graduates may do practices based on computer in various institutions with their computer skills which they improve themselves and learn. Our graduates are employed in various scientific research institutions; they can produce projects and be academician. In our department, domestic and international scientific studies are carried and education seminars are given to the institutions which demand.
They may also develop an academic career by enrolling in related M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs of the universities in Turkey or abroad.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
The qualification of ECONOMICS is obtained upon graduation from the programme ECONOMICS, which requires;
Completion of all the courses designated within the curriculum of the programme, having a total of 240 ECTS Credits, with passing grades.
Achievement of a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.

Access to Further Studies
Upon successful completion of this programme, students may apply to master’s (second cycle) and in some cases, to doctorate (third cycle) degree programs in or related fields of ECONOMICS. According to the National Regulations on Graduate Education, students are admitted to master’s programmes taking into account their undergraduate (first cycle degree) achievement level and the scores on the subject-specific entrance examinations of the Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) centrally administered by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). Within the framework of the national regulations, regulations endorsed by the senate of each university stipulate the weight of ALES Examination results in the overall evaluation of candidates. Depending on the institutions’ regulations, for some programmes to be accessed, a certain level of foreign language proficiency is also required.

Examinations
The success of students in achieving the expected learning outcomes of the each course unit within the curriculum of ECONOMICS programme is evaluated via assessments of in-term activities and final examination which takes place at the end of each semester.
Assessment of in-term activities includes a minimum number of a mid-term examination, homework and a short-exam (quiz) as compulsory assessment methods for all the course units within all degree programmes defined by the Regulations. The programmes are encouraged to define more assessment methods for the in-term activities depending on their needs for measuring the achievements of the outcomes at the programme and course unit levels in order to ensure the educational aims and objectives. The nature and number of the assessment methods used for each course unit together with their contribution to the final grades are given under the title of “Assessment and Grading” in the sections of course descriptions. These arrangements are announced in advance, at the beginning of each semester and published in the sections of the course descriptions on this web site.
Mid-term and final examinations are conducted in dates, places and times determined and announced by the University. The students’ final semester grade is given by their instructors based on mid-term examination, homework evaluation, short-examinations, final examination and, if there is any other assessment results taking into account the students’ compliance with attendance to the course activities.
The contributions of the grades of the in-term activities and final exam grade to the final success grade of a course are determined by the course instructor and announced to students within the first two weeks of the semester. Moreover, the contribution of the final exam cannot be less than 40 % and higher than 60% for all the courses within all the degree programmes defined by the Regulations
Course units, which do not require a mid-term, homework, short-exam and/or a final exam, such as work placement, are determined by the administration of the related departments and specific assessment and grading methods for these courses are also announced through the same channels described above. Evaluation of such activities is made through the procedures defined by the Senate and assessed by Pass (P) or Fail (F) grades.
Grading
The success of a student for each assessment (in-term and final) defined for each course unit is evaluated by the instructor. Evaluations are made over a scale of 100 points and converted to the letter grades at the end of the semester taking into account the standard deviation of grades and grade point average of the class and using the relative evaluation method, principles of which have been set by the Senate.

Graduations Requirements
In order for a student to graduate from the ECONOMICS program the following conditions must be met:
Completion of all the courses designated within the curriculum of the programme, having a total of 240 ECTS Credits, with passing grades.
