World Food Day Event Held at Our University


The World Food Day event organized at our university by Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University, Niğde Provincial Directorate of National Education, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies, and Faculty of Engineering was held on October 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in Hall 1071 of the Congress and Culture Center. Our department chair, Prof. Dr. Hasan TANGÜLER, along with some of our faculty members and students, participated in the event on behalf of our department.

The opening speeches were first made by Fatma KILIÇ, Health Services Officer of the Niğde Provincial Directorate of National Education, who spoke about her work on healthy nutrition and food safety. Then, Prof. Dr. Ahmet ŞEKEROĞLU, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies, emphasized the importance of food day and food accessibility. In addition, Prof. Dr. Murat BARUT, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at our university, stressed the importance of raising food awareness and highlighted the theme of World Food Day 2025, “Better Food, Better Future.”

During the event, Assist. Dr. Ayşe ÖZBEY, a faculty member of our department, delivered a speech titled “Working Together for Better Food and a Better Future.” Dr. Ayşe ÖZBEY emphasized that food production is not only an economic responsibility but also an environmental and social one, noting that due to the growing population, climate change, and limited natural resources, it has become inevitable to produce food using sustainable methods.

At the end of the conference, certificates of appreciation were presented to the speakers and moderator for their contributions. The program concluded with important messages regarding the future of sustainable food systems, and participants noted that such scientific events strengthen university-community collaboration and raise awareness.
