ACADEMIC GUIDANCE
All the registered students of Omer Halisdemir University have the right to benefit from the academic counseling service by the medium of academic guidance counselors. With assisting the students in education related matters being in the first place, academic counseling aims at helping the students with the problems they might come across, providing advice for the professional life, guiding, getting them adopt lifelong learning as a habit, informing them of the facilities of the university and faculty/ school/ vocational school of higher education together with the ones of the environment, keeping track of their performances and giving support in case of failure and helping them elect their courses. The lecturer assigned as the counselor carries on with the guidance until the guided registered student graduates.
Tasks of Student Counselors
Counselors provide guidance for the students about the subjects related with education and learning processes. Counselors are supposed to guide the students about the following:
a) Informing the students of the facilities of the university and faculty/ school/ vocational school of higher education/department together with the ones of the environment.
b) Making sure the forms prepared by the university and faculty/ school/ vocational school of higher education/department are filled out.
c) Informing the students of and giving them detailed information about the courses and helping them elect their courses.
d) Informing the students of Regulation of Education and Examinations.
e) Keeping track of the students’ performances.
f) Probing the reasons in case of failure and informing the students of these reasons.
g) Guiding the students about their career planning.
h) Getting them adopt lifelong learning as a habit.
i) Assisting the students to get counseling from the Psychological Counseling and Guidance Service if necessary.
j) Informing the head of department of the unresolved problems.
k) Carrying out the consultancy programme determined by the head of department on a weekly basis.
l) Making sure that the student representative of the class is elected within the first two weeks of each semester.
m) Attending the consultation committee and bringing the problems of the guided students and precautions to be taken to the attention of the head of department at the end of each semester.
