Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University Department of Geological Engineering started its formal education in 1992-1993 academic year and its evening education in 1995-1996 academic year. After a 6-year break it started its evening education in 2008 again. In our department master’s and doctorate degrees educations are provided under auspices of Institute of Science.

The Bachelor’s Degree Programme of the Department of Geological Engineering, a 4-year programme including 8 semesters, offers 240 ECTS credits by giving 30 ECTS workload in each semester. One ECTS equals to 30 hours of student workload per semester. The department has a young, dynamic and competent academic staff including 3 Professors, 3 Associate Professors, 6 Assistant Professors and 1 Doctor Research Assistants.

The department consists of 4 divisions: General Geology, Applied Geology, Mineralogy-Petrography and Ore Deposits-Geochemistry. Moreover a number of projects supported by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Organization, etc. are carried out by the research groups in the department. Undergraduate and postgraduate students take part in these projects.

In this program, freshmen take basic courses like physics, chemistry, and mathematics in addition to courses underlying geological engineering. Sophomores take professional courses in addition to some elective courses. Juniors who complete studying the fundamentals of Geological Engineering undergo training to gain experience on their subjects. Senior students who pass their fourth year courses and thesis graduate with a degree in Geological Engineering.

At the beginning of 2005-2006 academic year Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University Department of Geological Engineering moved to its full equipped modern building and has trains Geological Engineers who learn their craft efficiently.
