During this course in order to create a certain point of view a brief history of translation will be presented and several theories and concepts will be discussed. Different methods and sources will be introduced, discussed and applied.

In this lecture, the aim is to improve learning English vocabulary and improve vocabulary knowledge. In the first section of this lecture, students are expected to focus on vocabularies in social media, TV, and news. Compulsory UIC1007 READING FOR TRANSLATION PURPOSES 2 0 4
The objective of this course is to assist students in reading texts in English so that they can inquire into the variety of resources and strategies the translator uses in comprehending the text. In either written or verbal form, the students transfer into Turkish their understanding of English texts. To this end, students summarize the texts for different recipients or give short presentations.

This lecture addresses the theoretical concepts for technical translation. The documents that are related to industry, science, and technology are translated. Practices, term projects, and presentations are prepared.

The primary intent of this course is to closely study the concepts of society and culture with a view to analyzing the relationship between the individual and society. Students are expected to read texts critically and discuss topics related to social institutions such as politics, religion, education, economy, and family. Through questioning and critical thinking, students shall have the opportunity to gain insight into themselves, their close environment as well as the society and culture they belong to.

The course targets students’ parctice some teaching activities to reinforce their knowledges which they acquire in German 1 course, develop strategies and skills such as learning words, memorising them , keeping them in their minds,using them when necessary, read a text using their learnt reading strategies, acquire writing skill in line with their requirements and levels in German language.

Compulsory UIC2001 TRANSLATION OF SOCIAL SCIENCES 2 0 3
This course aims at helping students expand their vocabulary and develop an awareness of particular norms operating in Turkish and English texts in fields such as politics, art, tourism, archeology, psychology, sociology, anthropology and philosophy. After reading the texts, students are encouraged to find parallel texts in the target language and to analyse them in terms of lexis and textual norms. Students not only enhance their vocabulary and comprehension skills, but also improve their translation skills by translating excerpts from these texts.

To be able to use and trace the improvements in the current technologies for the whole processes of interpretation, translation memories, online sources, term banks, spelling and grammar control. In this course students will learn how to apply different methods , and how to cope with the possible problems that may rise during simultaneous translation with the appropriate strategies and procedure.
Elective UIC2027 TRANSLATION OF MEDICAL TEXT 3 0 4
The purpose of this course is to introduce medical translation, which is a significant sub-branch of interpretation. The subjects that take place in the course are the nature of medical language and general properties, the sources of the problems that are encountered during a medical translation, and the equivalence of medical documents.

This course aims to familiarize students with the norms in literary translation with reference to textual traditions in Turkish and English literatures. They will do research, presentation, written assignments and term papers.

Note taking is viewed just as a tool in this course. It is aimed to express what is heard as meaningful structures, to grasp the intended meaning and differentiate.

Compulsory UIC2002 TRANSLATION PROJECT 2 0 3
This course aims to ensure that students make use of their knowledge of translation theory in the areas of translation practice and criticism. Students are expected to prepare and present three projects. The first project involves a description of the student’s practical training. For the second project, students write a critical comparison of at least two translations of one source text. The third project comprises a translation of a short story (or an informative text) along with a description of the decision-making process of the translation.
Compulsory UIC2006 TRANSLATION OF LEGAL TEXTS 2 0 3
The purpose of this course is to introduce law translation which is a specific part of interpretation. The subjects that take place in the course are the nature of legislation language and general purposes, the sources of the problems that are encountered during legal translation and the equivalence of law documents.

This course aims to analyze texts in English with discourse tools such as cohesion, coherence, etc. In this way, students improve the analytical skills necessary for comprehension and develop an understanding of how linguistic devices may be used in translation. Throughout the course, students apply the above-mentioned skills in textual analyses for translation purposes.
