Our department was founded in 2013 under the Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures of Niğde Vocational School of Social Sciences.  The TYT score type and the guidelines established by the Council of Higher Education are used to determine whether students are admitted to our program. With regular education, our program carries on with its educational activities. As of 2023, we have a general quota of 60 students, and 62 students have been placed in total.

The Applied English Translation program is an associate degree program consisting of 2 years of professional training given after the successful completion of a 1-year English preparatory program (to be held at the School of Foreign Languages). The language of instruction in our program is English.

The program's objectives are to give students the skills necessary for both written and spoken translation in a variety of sectors, within a curriculum that is up-to-date and meets the demands of the industry, as well as written and oral communication competency in English. Our curriculum requires students to do a 40-day internship to provide them the chance to put their theoretical knowledge into practice and obtain translation experience. Our students must take 30 ECTS of obligatory and elective courses per semester for four semesters in order to achieve the 120 ECTS needed for graduation. In addition, they must complete a 40-day mandatory workplace internship. After receiving approval from the department internship commission, our students can complete their internships in the official institutions and organizations' international relations departments, ministries, translation offices, or places of employment where they can translate actively. Under the Erasmus Internship Mobility program, our students may also do their internship abroad.

Our graduate students can find job opportunities in various sectors such as translation, foreign trade, logistics and tourism. They can also transfer to Translation and Interpreting, English Language and Literature, American Culture and Literature, and Linguistics undergraduate programs with the Vertical Transfer Exam.

Students at Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University may be exempt from some courses according to Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University Associate and Undergraduate Education and Examination regulations. In order to be exempt from courses, students must apply for exemption from courses within the specified periods and receive approval from the school’s board of directors.
