General Information

The Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at Faculty of Bor Health Sciences offers a four-year undergraduate program that provides scientifically-based education in assessment and treatment approaches aimed at enhancing individuals’ movement and functional capacity. The program consists of eight semesters, each worth 30 ECTS credits, and awards graduates the title of "Physiotherapist."

Educational activities in our department are conducted under three main divisions: Neurological Rehabilitation, Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy, and Orthopedic Physiotherapy. The department has a young, dynamic, and academically competent faculty, consisting of 3 Assistant Professors, 3 Lecturers, and 2 Research Assistants.

The curriculum begins in the first year with basic medical sciences and common university courses. From the second year onward, the focus shifts to developing professional knowledge and skills. The third year deepens the students' theoretical foundation, while the fourth year is dedicated to practical clinical internships in various healthcare settings. Upon successful completion of pre-graduation examinations, students are qualified to enter the profession as Physiotherapists.

Graduates who meet the required criteria may continue their education at the postgraduate level, thereby gaining the opportunity to pursue an academic career or specialize in specific areas of the profession.

 

Purpose and Objectives

Purpose

The educational objective of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation at Faculty of Bor Health Sciences is to train physiotherapists who are capable of protecting health, preventing and treating diseases, and improving quality of life by enhancing individuals’ functionality. Graduates are expected to possess advanced clinical assessment and decision-making skills, to plan and implement physiotherapy interventions in accordance with professional standards, to be open to scientific and technological advancements, committed to ethical values, competent in interdisciplinary collaboration at both national and international levels, and active contributors to public health.

 

Objectives

The primary goal of the program is to train physiotherapists who can effectively utilize their professional knowledge and skills in the field of physiotherapy; identify, prevent, and treat movement and functional disorders; and enhance individuals’ health-related quality of life. The program aims to educate individuals who adopt a research-oriented approach in clinical decision-making processes, embrace lifelong learning, and apply evidence-based physiotherapy practices. It also aims to produce graduates who can design and implement individualized physiotherapy and rehabilitation programs, demonstrate sensitivity to public health issues, and adapt their knowledge, skills, and attitudes in response to evolving needs. The program emphasizes the development of professionals who are creative and innovative thinkers, value scientific reasoning, are open to emerging technologies, can manage professional processes with an awareness of quality assurance, and adhere to ethical principles. Additionally, it seeks to train individuals who are capable of playing an active role in interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary working environments, communicate effectively, and collaborate efficiently within teams.

 

Level, Turkish Qualifications Framework for Higher Education (TQF-HE) and Awarded Degree 

 

The Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation undergraduate program is a 4-year program consisting of 240 ECTS credits. The program meets the ECTS credit requirements and level qualifications defined for the "First Cycle" in the Qualifications Framework of the European Higher Education Area (QF-EHEA) and the "Level 6" qualifications in the Turkish Qualifications Framework for Higher Education (TQF-HE). It also complies with the "Level 6"qualifications defined in the European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (EQF-LLL). In addition, the program fulfills the qualifications defined in the National Core Education Program for the Field of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation (FTR-UCEP).

 

Admission Requirements 

Turkish students are admitted to the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation undergraduate program based on the results of the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Admission is based on the scores obtained from the Basic Proficiency Test (TYT) and the Field Proficiency Test (AYT). Candidates who are successful in the AYT are placed in the program according to their preference order and numerical score type (SAY).

 

Recognition of Prior Learning 

In accordance with the principle of lifelong learning, Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University recognizes previously taken courses from other institutions. If the learning outcomes of these courses are compatible with those of the registered program, students may be exempted from these courses in their graduation credit calculation. The compatibility of learning outcomes and exemption decisions are evaluated and finalized by the Faculty Board, in line with relevant laws and regulations.

 

Program Profile 

The Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department is designed to provide a high-quality education that enables students to follow and learn the latest technologies, while also encouraging participation in both practical and theoretical research. The undergraduate curriculum is structured in alignment with cooperative education strategies and practice-based experience, making it adaptable to emerging trends in technology.

The program primarily focuses on basic and clinical medical sciences, as well as principles of exercise and therapy. Accordingly, it aims to equip students with the ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practice in both healthy individuals and patients, comprehend various fields within physiotherapy and rehabilitation, and gain holistic and multidisciplinary working skills based on creative and integrative approaches.

The Bachelor's degree program in Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation (classified as First Cycle in the Bologna Framework and Level 6 in TQF-HE) is academically oriented and provides graduates with the necessary qualifications to engage in advanced professional practice, research activities, and access to postgraduate studies, including master’s and doctoral programs.

Graduates of the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Undergraduate Program are awarded the title of "Physiotherapist" and are qualified to work in a wide range of healthcare and wellness settings aimed at improving, maintaining, and restoring individuals' physical functions. They can be employed in institutions such as public hospitals affiliated with the Ministry of Health, university hospitals, private hospitals and clinics, physical therapy and rehabilitation centers, thermal spa and wellness facilities, elderly care centers and nursing homes, special education and rehabilitation centers, sports clubs, professional sports teams, and health and wellness centers.

Physiotherapists may work in various sub-specialties such as orthopedic rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation, pediatric rehabilitation, geriatrics, sports medicine, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, actively participating in the provision of multidisciplinary healthcare services aimed at enhancing individuals’ quality of life.

Furthermore, graduates may pursue postgraduate (master’s and doctoral) education at universities in Turkey and abroad, engaging in scientific research, advancing in their area of specialization, or pursuing academic careers. Opportunities for academic advancement allow graduates to work in education and research-oriented roles within higher education institutions. Qualification Requirements and Regulations 

To graduate from the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Undergraduate Program and gain qualification in the field, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Successfully complete all compulsory and elective courses, including mandatory practical components, and earn at least 240 ECTS credits in accordance with the Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations;
  • Achieve a minimum GPA of 2.00 out of 4.00;
  • Successfully complete the Clinical Summer Internship I (20 working days / 5 ECTS);
  • Successfully complete the Clinical Summer Internship II (20 working days / 5 ECTS);
  • Successfully complete the courses Clinical Practice I and Clinical Practice II, each of which is worth 20 ECTS, conducted during the final year of the program.

Opportunities for Further Studies 

Graduates of the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation undergraduate program may apply for master’s and, in certain cases, direct doctoral programs in this field or related disciplines. Admission to graduate programs is regulated by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) in accordance with national postgraduate education regulations. Applications are evaluated based on the student’s undergraduate academic performance and scores from the Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES)administered by ÖSYM.

In addition, depending on the program and the regulations of the university senate, applicants may be required to submit proof of foreign language proficiency. Accepted exams include YÖKDİL, YDS, TOEFL IBT, IELTS Academic, and other internationally recognized language proficiency tests approved by YÖK. Foreign language proficiency is an important criterion for admission, especially in programs with instruction in a foreign language, as well as for participation in international academic collaborations and research activities.

 

 

 

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading 

During the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation program, students are assessed using various methods to evaluate the achievement of intended program learning outcomes. Learning outcomes related to each course are outlined in the course descriptions, along with the contribution of each assessment component to the final grade. Examples include:

Examinations 

Student performance in each course is measured through in-semester evaluations and final examinations to determine the extent to which learning outcomes have been achieved. In-semester evaluations include at least one midterm exam, one assignment, and one quiz, as required by the undergraduate regulations. Programs are encouraged to implement additional assessment tools if necessary to ensure accurate measurement of learning outcomes.

Details regarding the type and number of assessment methods and their weight in the final grade are listed under the "Assessment and Evaluation" section in course descriptions. These details are announced at the beginning of each semester and published on the university website.

Midterm and final exams are conducted on dates, times, and locations announced by the university. Final grades are assigned by the course instructor based on attendance, midterm and final exam results, assignments, and other evaluations, if applicable. The weight of in-semester performance and the final exam on the overall course grade is communicated to students within the first two weeks of the semester.

 

Grading 

Each student’s performance is evaluated by the course instructor for every assessment component. Grades are assigned on a scale of 0 to 100 and then converted to a letter grade using a relative grading system, which takes into account the standard deviation and average grade of the class, in accordance with the principles established by the University Senate.
