Grade Evaluation
Achievement Grade
- Grades obtained from exams are evaluated on a 100-point scale to determine the achievement grade. A student’s success in a course is assessed based on their achievement grade, which is calculated by combining the in-term performance with the result of the final examination at the end of the semester.
- In-term activities include attendance in theoretical and practical classes, practical work, assignments, projects, internships, seminars, laboratory work, and similar tasks. These in-term components may be assessed together with a midterm exam, the proportion of which is determined during the final week of the semester as specified in the academic calendar.
- The final exam contributes a minimum of 40% and a maximum of 60% to the achievement grade. The specific proportions of the in-term assessments and the final exam, as well as the implementation of in-term work, are announced to students by the course instructor within the first two weeks of the semester.
- The relative grading system is used to calculate the final grade. This system takes into account the arithmetic average and statistical distribution of the grades of all students enrolled in the course. The principles of implementing the relative grading system are determined by the University Senate.
Letter Grades and Grade Points
Letter Grade
Grade Point
AA 4.00
BA 3.50
BB 3.00
CB 2.50
CC 2.00

Other Grade Symbols:
S: Satisfactory (for non-credit courses)
U: Unsatisfactory (for non-credit courses)
P: Pass (at the end of the first semester for annual courses)
EX: Exempt (passed the exemption exam administered by the university)
NI: Not included in GPA calculation
NA: Not Attended (failed due to lack of attendance and/or practical participation, and thus ineligible for final exams)
T: Transfer (grade assigned for equivalent courses approved by the faculty/school board, taken at another program or institution)
Students receiving any of the following grades are considered to have passed the course: AA, BA, BB, CB, CC, S, and EX. Students who receive DC or DD are considered successful only if their semester GPA, including all registered courses, is 2.00 or higher.
The T grade is assigned to students transferring from other departments within the university or from other universities, for previously taken courses deemed equivalent by the department head and approved by the faculty/school board. These grades are not included in GPA calculations.
Academic GPA Calculation
- Students' academic performance is determined by calculating the semester GPA and the cumulative GPA (CGPA). The weighted score for a course is obtained by multiplying the course credit by the grade point corresponding to the achievement grade.
- The semester GPA is calculated by dividing the total weighted scores of all compulsory and elective courses taken in that semester by the total number of credits. For annual courses, the spring semester is included in the GPA calculation.
- The cumulative GPA is calculated by dividing the total weighted scores of all courses required throughout the student’s program by the total number of credits attempted.
- GPA is calculated to two decimal places. If the third digit after the decimal is 5 or greater, the second digit is rounded up.
- Courses taken as part of a minor or double major program, and courses graded with S or T, are not included in GPA calculations. If a student repeats a course, only the most recent grade is included in the GPA. Students may repeat courses in which they earned DD, DC, or CC grades in order to improve their GPA. In such cases, the most recent grade is used in GPA calculations.
