Faculty of Agricultural Science and Technology was opened in 2011 in Ömer Halisdemir University. The Department of Biosystem Engineering, which is one of the four departments in the Faculty of Agriculture Sciences and Technology, is planning to pass education and training term in 2018-2019 academic years following completing the academic staff. As of 2024, our department's academic staff includes 2 associate professors, 1 assistant professor, and 2 research assistants.
It is planned that students and instructors of the department will collaborate and exchange with various countries within the framework of ERASMUS, FARABİ and MEVLANA projects.
It is planned to take approximately 30 students in each year. Students, who successfully complete compulsory and elective courses of undergraduate program, will be graduated with the title of Biosystem Engineer. Successful students will also be able to complete a second major or minor education from other disciplines.
Biosystem Engineers will be graduates of Agricultural Construction and Irrigation, Agricultural Machinery and Agricultural Energy Systems which have been training in the form of subprograms (Department of Biosystem Engineering) under Agricultural Engineering program, for that reason, they will benefit from it all of duties and authorities according to undergraduate and specialization areas (Irrigation-Drainage, Agricultural Structures, Agricultural Equipment and Machinery) in the third part of the Regulation on the Duties and Competences of Agricultural Engineers. According to this, Biosystem Engineers will be authorized to perform implementation and control services of irrigation facilities which needs irrigation water up to 500 liters, to perform implementation and control services of ponds to be built for irrigation water and to provide drinking water for animals, to perform implementation and control services of drainage, soil erosion preventive soil and water conservation facilities, to perform research on agricultural structures, study, plan and project; to perform land arrangement related to use of water in agriculture in irrigation facilities, to perform projects application of land-based channels, field group channels, field irrigation and drainage facilities, land reclamation , land consolidation, distribution and similar activities, water use improvement projects, studies of soil water plant relationships, to perform feasibility, planning, project implementation and control, to design agricultural tools and machines, preparation and signing of projects of tools and machines, to perform examination, trial and analysis related to documentation or licensing procedures that are necessary for manufacture, marketing, importing and exporting of agricultural tools and machines, and perform feasibility and planning of agricultural energy systems, preparation and signing of projects of agricultural energy systems, to perform examination, trial and analysis related to documantation or licensing prdocedures that are necessary for manufacture, marketing, importing and exporting of agricultural energy systems tools and machines.
Biosystem Engineers who have graduated from the department, regarding above mentioned study subjects, will be employed in Public organizations such as Special Provincial Administrations, Ministries of Food-Agriculture and Livestock, Environment and Urbanism, Forestry and Water Affairs, Municipalities, General Directorate of state hydraulic works, Agriculture and Rural Development Support Institution etc., Land Consolidation Contracting Companies, Universities (as teaching staff), Agricultural Machinery Industry, Tractor Industry, Agricultural Consultancy Organizations, Agricultural Cooperatives, Public and Private Banks, Agricultural Machinery Contracting Organizations, Irrigation Unions, Irrigation-Drainage Contracting Companies, Private Engineering and Consultancy Offices, Technology Development Zones, Contracting Companies related to Agricultural Construction, Agricultural Construction Contractors, International Companies Based on Agriculture, Machinery Industry based on Livestock, Food Machinery Industry and Large Agricultural Enterprises.
Graduates who have successfully completed the program are awarded a bachelor's degree in the field of Biosystem Engineering.
Students must have a high school and a balanced school diploma in order to be admitted to the program and they must have enough points from relevant area in the exam that OSYM has applied.
Students who are studying at Ömer Halisdemir University may be exempted from some courses according to Niğde University Associate Degree and Undergraduate Education-Examination and Examination Regulations. In order to be exempted from the courses, Students are required to apply for exemption from courses within specified period of time and approval should be obtained from related college/faculty/institute administration boards.
In order to graduate, Candidates must successfully complete the courses in the program (240 ECTS in total), obtain CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully complete the final thesis.
Students who graduate from the program may continue post-graduate education and training in case they provide requirements according to regulations of the graduate education and training.
Examinations at Ömer Halisdemir University are carried out according to Ömer Halisdemir University Associate Degree and Undergraduate Education-Examination and Examination Regulations in accordance with student workload in Bologna process.
