Teacher Training school for females, which was the first name of the faculty, has been training teachers for many years. The faculty started to accept students, who were 40 in number, at the current building of Teachers’ House in 1959. The number of the students has been increasing since that year. At first, only female students were accepted to the faculty, but later it started to accept male students just for formal education.It became the division of Selçuk University as an Educational High School and educated many teachers until it was connected to Niğde University.

In 1990-1991 ,the academic year in Educational High Schools was lengthened from 2 to 4 years and these schools were named as Education Faculties .In 1992, Educational High School was converted into the Faculty of Education and connected to Niğde University.

The Faculty of Education which is located on Derbent Campus started its education as a single unit named Primary School Education Teaching.In the 1992-1993 academic year ,Turkish Language and Literature,History and Geography Education Teaching departments started accepting students.In 1995 ,Arts and Crafts Education and Music Education departments were added in accordance with Chapter 7 within the framework of Restructuring Program in Higher Education Institutions.In 1998 Computer Education and Teaching Department was also added . In the same year ,faculty was turned into a 5 unit one with the establisment within the framework of restructuring program, therefore; History Education and Geography Education Departments were closed. Today, The Faculty has been carrying on its education with seven departments which have been going on training , and three departments will be opened when they reach the sufficient number in terms of lecturers and research assistants in order to make the programs run.

The Faculty has tecnology classrooms that are suitable for computer assisted education with projection system, science laboratories,computer laboratories, drama room,drawing workshop, a music room,drawing and art rooms that belong to art teaching department and a lot of instruments and piona halls belonging to the department of music teaching.

The understanding of education in our faculty is to train teachers and educators equipped with knowledge and qualifications to educate coming generations with the requirements of their time not the present time they are living in.Along with the understanding,the faculty is continuously trying to make the quality better and increase the quality of lecturers,administrative staff, and social and technical utilities.It is trying to contribute to students’ needs during their education so that they can be successful at their jobs.
