About Us
The School of Foreign Languages was established by the decision of the Council of Ministers published in the Official Gazette dated June 30, 2010 and numbered 27627. There are Departments of Foreign Languages and Translation and Interpretation Studies in the school; however, the Department of Translation and Interpretation Studies cannot admit students due to the insufficient number of faculty members.
The School of Foreign Languages conducts compulsory and optional foreign language (English) preparatory program of the Faculties, Graduate Schools and Vocational Schools and compulsory foreign language courses of the Faculties and Vocational Schools at the university. The students can take proficiency exam at the beginning of the academic year and those who fail or do not take the exam receive foreign language education. The foreign language preparatory education conducted by the Department of Foreign Languages is 26 (twenty six) hours per week for A1 students and 22 (twenty two) hours per week for A2 and B1 students in technology aided classes with 24 students per class.
Compulsory foreign language preparatory program which started in the 2006-2007 Academic Year is conducted in the following departments: Departments of Plant Production and Technologies, Animal Production and Technologies, Agricultural Genetics Engineering and Biosystems Engineering of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies; Department of Language and Literature of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; Department of English Language Teaching of the Faculty of Education; Applied English and Translation Program of Nigde Social Sciences Vocational School; Graduate Programs (English) of Plant Production and Technologies, Animal Production and Technologies and Agricultural Genetics Engineering Departments of the Institute of Science and Technology.
Besides, optional foreign language preparatory program is conducted for the students in the following departments: Departments of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Food Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geomatic Engineering and Computer Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering; Departments of Business Administration, Political Science and International Relations, Banking and Finance, Economics, Public Administration, Finance and International Trade and Logistics Management in the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences; Departments of Architecture and Landscape Architecture of the Faculty of Architecture; Department of Public Relations and Advertising of the Faculty of Communication; Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling the Faculty of Education; Department of Textile and Fashion Design of the Faculty of Fine Arts; Departments of Midwifery, Nursing, Social Work and Health Management of Zübeyde Hanim Faculty of Health Sciences; Departments of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Food Engineering, Geological Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mining Engineering and Agricultural Genetics Engineering (Turkish Program) as well as Departments of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics of the Institute of Science and Technology; Department of Eurasia Studies, Banking and Finance, Physical Education and Sports, Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures, Economics, Business Administration, Finance, Musicology, Political Science and International Relations, Sociology, History, Turkish Language and Literature and International Trade and Logistics Management of the Institute of Social Sciences; Graduate Programs (Turkish) of Turkish Education, Social Studies Education, Science Education, Mathematics Education, Elementary Education, Music Education, Educational Administration, Education Programs and Training, as well as Guidance and Psychological Counseling Departments of the Institute of Educational Sciences.
In addition, support for foreign language is provided in the correspondences of the Rectorate and International Relations Office, and our lecturers provides translation and interpretation in administrative, judicial, and scientific correspondences, bilateral agreement texts, magazine subscription, travel planning, hosting and etc.
Mission
Our mission is to provide our students with a quality education life with which they can gain the foreign language knowledge and skills that are necessary for communication and conveying information for their academic studies and to raise individual who are aware of the need for lifelong learning in foreign language and who has gained the basic foreign language skills and competences much needed in academic, professional and social life.
Vision
Our vision is to become an educational institution that is distinguished with its qualities and to raise students in such way that they not only benefit from their foreign language in their academic departments but also in their social life by developing all of the programs, educational tools and educational environments within the School of Foreign Languages parallel to our University’s general vision and modern international qualities.
