General Information

Nigde Omer Halisdemir University Nigde Zubeyde Hanim School of Health started education in 1996-1997 Academic Year in accordance with the protocol no. 22805 signed between Ministry of Health and Board of Higher Education in 22.11.1996 and being based on the fact that the Schools of Health, being established instead of the Vocational Schools of Health that were within the body of Ministry of Health by virtue of the decision of High Council of Health dated 23.05.1995 and numbered 185/1, were to carry on their education in vocational high school buildings of the General Directorate of Health Education.

The proposal of the Rectorate of Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University to the Department of Health Management for admitting students since the academic year of 2020-2021 was examined at the General Assembly meetings of Higher Education and in accordance with the Articles 7 / d-2 and 7 / h of the Law No. 2547 with the Law No. 2880; At the General Assembly Meeting of Higher Education dated 5.03.2020, it was deemed appropriate to take 50 students to the Health Management Department of Niğde Zübeyde Hanım Health School.

Students who have successfully completed and graduated from the Health Management Department have the potential to be employed as a middle and senior manager responsible for administrative, financial and technical affairs in a wide range of services in the public and private sectors, in particular hospitals, as well as general health management. There are three Assistant Professor Doctor and a Research Assistant in our department.

Aims and Objectives

Aims:

Department of Health Care Management aims to educate highly qualified health management professionals for the health sector with undergraduate education program. The graduates are expected to know the health sector well, confident and who follow the developments in our country and in the world, especially in the field of health. They are also expected to adopt contemporary and universal values, are curious and willing to learn for more and can analyse; have the knowledge, ability and the ideal to administer health care institutions, use foreign languages very well; have high analytical skills; have the spirit of entrepreneurship directed to production; have developed communication and leadership skills necessary for his/her profession.

  • Training the professional health managers who can think scientifically in the field of health management and have national and international competencies within the framework of changing demand conditions in health services.

  • Contributing to the social life of Niğde with social responsibility projects and cultural / artistic and sports activities

 

Level of Qualification and Qualification Awarded

Upon successful completion of this program, students are awarded with the qualification of Bachelor's Degree in HEALTH MANAGEMENT.

A Bachelor's Degree Program in HEALTH MANAGEMENT is a 240 ECTS Credits, 4-year program. The program  meets the requirements by both the ECTS credits and level descriptors of the first cycle degree qualifications of the Overarching Framework of European Qualifications Framework HE(QF-EHEA) and the 6th level qualifications of the Turkish Qualifications Framework for HE (TYYÇ, NQF-HETR).  The level descriptors also meet the 6th level requirements of the qualifications of the European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (EQF-LLL).

 

Specific Admission Requirements

Admission of national students to the HEALTH MANAGEMENT program is contingent on success on the nationally centralized Student Selection Examination (OSYS) conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (OSYM). Candidates who succeed on the YGS (ENTRANCE EXAM in Higher Education) are enrolled according to their type EA score preferences.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning

With an understanding of lifelong learning, Nigde Omer Halisdemir University recognizes the previously taken courses in another institution and exempts them from graduation credit, as long as the courses match with the learning outcomes of the registered programme at Nigde Omer Halisdemir University. The learning outcome match and the exemption are decided by the School Board in line with the related laws and regulations.

Profile of the Programme

Undergraduate (Bachelor's Degree) program in Health Management (First Cycle in QF-EHEA and  6th level in TYYÇ ) is an academically-oriented program giving access to degree and non-degree research program and professional practice demanding high levels of knowledge and skills.

Health management program according to NQF-HETR (The Turkish Qualifications Framework for HE) can be classified in two different key areas as “72-Health" and" 34- Management and Management Sciences". The classification of the program with respect to NQF-HETR and the codes of the fields of education can be listed as follows:

The information given in the four-year undergraduate education of the department is generally theoretical. It is possible for students to put this theoretical knowledge into practice on the basis of management, through internships in inpatient treatment institutions.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples

Graduates of this department take charge in public (Ministry of Health, Universities) or private sector (private hospitals, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, insurance companies and other private health institutions). They can take charge in department of account and finance, human resources department, marketing department and patient relations department of healthcare institutions. They also have chance to be employed as a supervisor or specialist at several public institutions notably Ministry of Health and Social Security İnstitution. They may also have an academic career by matriculating in related M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes of the universities in Turkey or abroad.

 

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students of Health Management Department have to take course 240 ACTS credits and be successful to graduate.

Students need to provide at least 2,00 out of 4,00 general academic mean.

Also, students need to complete of a 14 weeks practice

Access to Further Studies

Upon successful completion of this programme, students may apply to master’s (second cycle) and in some cases, to doctorate (third cycle) degree programs in or related fields of HEALTH MANAGEMENT such as health institutions management, health policy and economy, quality assurance in health services, health informatics. According to the National Regulations on Graduate Education, students are admitted to master’s programmes taking into account their undergraduate (first cycle degree) achievement level and the scores on the subject-specific entrance examinations of the Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) centrally administered by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (OSYM). Within the framework of the national regulations, regulations endorsed by the senate of each university stipulate the weight of ALES Examination results in the overall evaluation of candidates. Depending on the institutions’ regulations, for some programmes to be accessed, a certain level of foreign language proficiency is also required.

Exams:

The success of students in achieving the expected leaning outcomes of the each course unit within the curriculum of HEALTH MANAGEMENT programme is evaluated via assessments of in-term activities and final examination which takes place at the end of each semester.

Assessment of in-term activities includes a minimum number of a mid-term examination, homework and a short-exam (quiz) as compulsory assessment methods for all the course units within all degree programmes defined by the Regulations. The programmes are encouraged to define more assessment methods for the in-term activities depending on their needs for measuring the achievements of the outcomes at the programme and course unit levels in order to ensure the educational aims and objectives. The nature and number of the assessment methods used for each course unit together with their contribution the final grades are given under the title of “Assessment and Grading” in the sections of course descriptions. These arrangements are announced in advance, at the beginning of each semester and published in the sections of the course descriptions on this web site.

Mid-term and final examinations are conducted in dates, places and times determined and announced by the University. The students’ final semester grade is given by their instructors based on mid-term examination, homework evaluation, short-examinations, final examination and, if there is any other assessment results taking into account the students’ compliance with attendance to the course activities.

The contributions of the grades of the in-term activities and final exam grade to the final success grade of a course are determined by the course instructor and announced to students within the first two weeks of the semester. Moreover, the contribution of the final exam cannot be less than 40 % and higher than 60% for all the courses within all the degree programmes defined by the Regulations.

Course units, which do not require a mid-term, homework, short-exam and/or a final exam, such as work placement, are determined by the administration of the related departments and specific assessment and grading methods for these courses are also announced through the same channels described above. Evaluation of such activities is made through the procedures defined by the Senate and assessed by Pass (P) or Fail (F) grades.

 

Grading:

The success of a student for each assessment (in-term and final) defined for each course unit is evaluated by the instructor. Evaluations are made over a scale of 100 points and converted to the letter grades at the end of the semester taking into account the standard deviation of grades and grade point average of the class and using the relative evaluation method, principles of which have been set by the Senate.

Graduation Requirements:

In order for a student to graduate from the HEALTH MANAGEMENT program the following conditions must to be met:

 

Completion of all the courses designated within the curriculum of the programme, having a total of 240 ECTS Credits with passing grades.

Achievement of a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.

Completion of with a 14-weeks (20 ECTS credits) of the practice
