Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University Department of Computer Technologies began taking pre-graduate student in 2009-2010 academic year. Computer Programming Associate Degree Program is a two-year program consisting of 30 ECTS with four semesters. An ECTS refers to student’s workload of 30 hours each semester. The academic staff consists of 5 teaching staff.
In this program, freshmen take basic courses like Mathematics, English, Turkish, Atatürk's Principles and History of Turkish Revolution, Basic Computer and compulsory subjects in addition to courses related with Computer Programming Program. (For the first year; Programming Fundamentals, The Web Design Basis, Office Software, Digital Design, Computer Hardware, Internet Programming I, Graphics and Animation, Data Structures and Programming).
In the second year, students begin to take some special courses related with their program. These courses are five elective courses including Internet Programming II, Object Oriented Programming, Visual Programming, System Analysis and Design. At the end of the second year, senior students who pass their second year courses and training, graduate with a degree in Computer Technicians.
Aims and Objectives
Aims
Our program aims to train Computer Programming Technicians to be employed in the public and private sectors, who are professional and well-equipped in their fields, able to follow technological developments, competent to meet the needs of industry, knowledgeable about computer hardware, software, data base management systems and internet technologies. Courses are supported by software packages so that students can practice their lessons on their own computers.
Program graduates can make their own initiatives, or may work in maintenance and repair services, data processing, software, hardware, networking departments of public or private organizations.
Objectives
The program has adequate infrastructure, technical issues, the basic knowledge and skills required in the field that enable evaluating and interpreting data using, identifying problems, and developing solutions to professional planning and realization of projects and training technicians.
Besides these general objectives of safety and job security of Computer Programming Programme, creating a team capable of transmitting on the same level, computer programmers can follow the developments in their profession, use computers, read and interpret technical drawings and diagrams. They can also understand the instructions received from the upper units, interpret transmissive sub-units and advanced technology. Having the ability of transmitting sub-units for particular applications, the team can work with responsibility and take risks. They have the ability of making oral, written, and technical communication, decision-making, needs analysis, solving problems, writing a report, using the necessary equipment, carrying out maintenance and repairing.
In addition, the program gives importance to social values, respect, social responsibility, global, social and professional ethics, the need for lifelong learning and self-renewing, subsequent developments in science and technology and educating individuals.
Level of Qualification and Qualification Awarded
Upon successful completion of this program, students are awarded with the qualification of ASSOCIATE DEGREE in COMPUTER PROGRAMMING.
SHORT CYCLE COMPUTER PROGRAMMING is a 2-year program with 120 ECTS Credits. The program meets the requirements by both the ECTS credits and level descriptors of the short cycle degree qualifications of the Overarching Framework of European Qualifications Framework HE (QF-EHEA) and the 5th level qualifications of the Turkish Qualifications Framework for HE (TYYÇ, NQF-HETR). The level descriptors also meet the 5th level requirements of the qualifications of the European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (EQF-LLL).
Specific Admission Requirements
Turkish students are placed in the Computer Programming Program according to the preference ranking in the TYT score type of the Higher Education Entrance Examination conducted by the Student Selection & Placement Center (OSYM). In addition, students are placed by OSYM according to the Exam Free Pass System.
Foreign students are accepted to the program as a result of the evaluation of their direct applications to the university.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning
With an understanding of lifelong learning, Ömer Halisdemir University recognizes the previously taken courses in another institution and exempts them from graduation credit, as long as the courses match with the learning outcomes of the registered program at Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University. The learning outcome match and the exemption are decided by the Faculty Board in line with the related laws and regulations.
Profile of the Program
Department of Computer Technologies has been established with a mission to provide the students a high quality program to follow and learn cutting edge technologies and at the same time to participate actively in applied and theoretical research. The undergraduate program is designed in accordance with a cooperative education strategy and an understanding of hands-on experience, so that the new trends in the technology can be adapted easily.
Education period of the program is four semesters (including training time). At the end of the fourth semester the students do 30 working-days internship. Computer Technologies Department associate degree program, (Bologna Process Framework for Higher Education Qualifications, Level 5 (TÇYY9), is a vocational program. Graduates of this department receive the title of COMPUTER PROGRAMMING TECHNICIAN. Graduates can work as freelance Computer Programming Technician, as well as in public and private institutions as technicians.
Qualification Requirements and Regulations
The qualification of Computer Programming Programmer is obtained upon graduation from the Computer Programming Programme, which requires;
· Completion of all the courses designated within the curriculum of the programme, having a total of 120 ECTS Credits.
· Achievement of a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.
· Completion of the 30-working-day summer practice
Access to Further Studies
Students who successfully complete this program are admitted to the upper level on the basis of their scores in the relevant fields in the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS) Entrance Examination conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM). In addition, students who are entitled to receive an Associate Degree diploma have the right to register to Anadolu University Open Education Faculty Undergraduate Programs from the 3rd grade without examination.

Examinations:
The success of students in achieving the expected leaning outcomes of the each course unit within the curriculum of Computer Programming Programme is evaluated via assessments of in-term activities and final examination which takes place at the end of each semester.
Assessment of in-term activities includes a minimum number of a mid-term examination, homework and a short-exam (quiz) as compulsory assessment methods for all the course units within all degree programs defined by the Regulations. The programs are encouraged to define more assessment methods for the in-term activities depending on their needs for measuring the achievements of the outcomes at the program and course unit levels in order to ensure the educational aims and objectives. The nature and number of the assessment methods used for each course unit together with their contribution the final grades are given under the title of “Assessment and Grading” in the sections of course descriptions. These arrangements are announced in advance, at the beginning of each semester and published in the sections of the course descriptions on this web site.
Mid-term and final examinations are conducted in dates, places and times determined and announced by the University. The students’ final semester grade is given by their instructors based on mid-term examination, homework evaluation, short-examinations, final examination and, if there are any, other assessment results taking into account the students’ compliance with attendance to the course activities.
The contributions of the grades of the in-term activities and final exam grade to the final success grade of a course are determined by the course instructor and announced to students within the first two weeks of the semester. Moreover, the contribution of the final exam cannot be less than 40 % and higher than 60% for all the courses within all the degree programmes defined by the Regulations.
Course units, which do not require a mid-term, homework, short-exam and/or a final exam, such as work placement, are determined by the administration of the related departments and specific assessment and grading methods for these courses are also announced through the same channels described above. Evaluation of such activities is made through the procedures defined by the Senate and assessed by Pass (P) or Fail (F) grades.
Grading :
The success of a student for each assessment (in-term and final) defined for each course unit is evaluated by the instructor. Evaluations are made over a scale of 100 points and converted to the letter grades at the end of the semester taking into account the standard deviation of grades and grade point average of the class and using the relative evaluation method, principles of which have been set by the Senate.

In order for a student to graduate from the Computer Programming Programme the following conditions must be met:

Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University Computer Programming Program Associate Degree program provides full-time and face-to-face education.
