Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University was established as Niğde University in accordance with the additional article 22 of the Law No. 3837 dated 03.07.1992 regarding the amendment and acceptance of the Decree Law No. 41 on the Organization of Higher Education Institutions and the Law No. 2809 regarding the amendment of the Decree Law No. 78 and 190. In 2016, following the treacherous coup attempt, the University was renamed as Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University to honour the heroism of Senior Sergeant Major Ömer Halisdemir, who was born in Bor/Niğde and was martyred on the 15th of July 2016.
Bor Vocational School was also established in 1992 and it was affiliated to Selçuk University at first, but it was transferred to Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University following the decision of the Higher Educational Execution Council on the 20.01.1993. The vocational school was established with three departments; the Animal Breeding and Health Program and the Textiles Program were new programs and the third program, Leather Working Program, had previously provided education as part of Niğde Vocational School. Carpet Weaving and Leather Apparel Programs were opened in 1994; Meat Industry, Dairy and Products, Machinery, Computer Technology and Programming, Electrical and Industrial Electronics Programs were opened in 1995; Knitting, Ready-made Clothing, Mapping-Cadastre, Air Conditioning-Cooling and Plumbing Programs were opened in 1997. In 1998, the Leather Working, Textiles, Ready-Made Clothing, Leather Apparel, Carpet Weaving and Knitting Programs were transferred to the newly formed Halil Zöhre Ataman Vocational School, which is the 2nd vocational school in Bor district. Furniture and Decoration Program was opened in 2000, Poultry Breeding was opened in 2003, Laboratory and Veterinary Health was opened in 2011, Food Quality Control and Analysis, Rail Systems Electrical and Electronic Technology and Rail Systems Machinery Technology Programs were opened in 2012. As of today, the Vocational School provides education with 9 active departments and 11 programs to about 2000 students.
The main building of the vocational school covers a closed area of 9000 m2, which contains classrooms, laboratories, workshops, faculty rooms and administrative offices. Additionally, there is a 550 m2 Furniture Decoration workshop, a 550 m2 metal works workshop, and an astroturf field for football.
The main building of the school is divided into A-B-C-D blocks and their distribution is as follows:
A Block: Electrical Laboratory, Rail Systems Laboratory, Canteen, Dining Hall, and Library
B Block: 19 classrooms, Computer Laboratory, and Control Laboratory
C Block: 5 Laboratory units and Technical Drawing Room
D Block: faculty rooms and administrative offices. D block consists of offices for the Director, Academic Staff (29 rooms), School Secretary, Student Affairs, Accounting, Private Secretary, Photocopier, Departmental Secretaries, Janitor/Porter, and a Meeting Hall. There are also a heating room, a transformer room, and archive and storage room.
