Course Objective
In the sociology of art course, the student understands that art is not a natural object but a social qualification, and develops the level of awareness about how the qualification of artist creates its own distinctive field of existence as a social category in every social space, in the context of its relationship with social processes, units and agents. Understands and expresses aesthetic values, art and artist qualification comparatively within the social context.
Brief Content of the Course
In the first stage, the main area of interest, method and basic approaches of the sociology of art are discussed. The factual characteristics of art from a sociological perspective, the changing position, status, meaning, role of art and the artist in the context of social conditions, and the definition of art and aesthetic values in the process of social evolution are examined, and the differences between aesthetic values and other social institutions (economy, politics, religion, etc.) The relationship is taken into consideration. The problematic of the universality of art is discussed and major theories in the literature are examined within this framework. II. In this stage, basic theoretical perspectives on the origin and functions of art are discussed. In the course, special attention is paid to understanding that the definition of art exhibits an open-ended, paradoxical position.
