Course Objective
The aim of this course is to examine home care services from a social work perspective, enabling students to learn the basic concepts, scope, and development of home care services; to understand the care needs of different groups such as the elderly, persons with disabilities, and individuals with chronic illnesses; and to gain knowledge and awareness about the role of social workers, legal and ethical dimensions, and communication skills in the home care process.
Brief Content of the Course
The course covers the basic concepts of care services, the definition and scope of home care, and its development in Turkey and worldwide. It addresses home care services for the elderly, persons with disabilities, and individuals with chronic illnesses, as well as care management, teamwork, and the role of social workers. In addition, psychological problems experienced in home care, communication, and legal and ethical principles are discussed. The course concludes with examples of practices from Turkey and around the world, current debates, and a general evaluation.
