Course Objective
To learn about the history of Nobel Prizes, how they are rewarded, how often they are awarded and to have an idea about the contribution of scientists who have received awards in physiology or medicine.
Brief Content of the Course
Alfred Nobel is a Swedish scientist who finds dynamite and many explosive substances. Nobel, who has a peace-loving personality, is very saddened by the use of his inventions for military purposes and being named as death trader. Nobel had left much of his wealth for the establishment of a prize. Its testament dated 27 November 1895, Nobel Prizes are awarded in various fields of science every year as physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature, peace and economy. The Nobel Medicine Prize was first given to the German scientist Emil Adolf van Behring in 1901 for his work on antitoxin therapy in diphtheria. 2017 Nobel Prize in Medicine; Jeffrey C. Hall, Michael Rosbash, and Michael W. Young, three American scientists who discovered the molecular mechanisms that control the circadian rhythm, also known as the biological clock, were given.
