General Info

Business Administration Department of the Nigde Omer Halisdemir University launched in 1988-1989 academic year. Department continued education and training within Selcuk University in Nigde until Nigde Omer Halisdemir University was founded on 11.06.1992. Nigde Omer Halisdemir University's Department of Business Administration, which continues its educational activities even during the establishment phase, gave its first graduates in 1992 spring semester.

 

Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Business Administration admitted the first graduate student in 1994 and the first doctoral student in 2001. Masters and Doctorate programs of Management and Organization Science Department, Production Management and Marketing Department, Accounting and Finance Department which formed the academic structure of Business Administration Department started to admit students in 2003.

Department of Business Administration giving the first graduate in 1992 has a competent academic staff which train academicians for various universities with doctorate program and dispatching faculty members with relevant appointments to different universities as a result of having a long history in academic education. Young, dynamic and competent academic staff of the department rapidly upgrade academic titles, compared with their peers, the number of academicians with Prof. Dr. and Assoc. Dr titles in the field is also remarkable. In the Department of Business Administration, students attend courses with relatively fewer students in two different branches, Branch A and Branch B so that they can continue their education and training effectively and efficiently.


The Undergraduate Business Administration Program of the Department of Business Administration is a 4-year program, composes of eight semesters, each has a 30 ECTS credits. The Undergraduate Business Administration Program is a program teaching students management, accounting, financing, production, marketing, numerical methods, economics and law courses in each semester, the first two years of compulsory courses, the third year compulsory and elective courses and 4th year elective courses. In the Department of Business Administration, it is aimed to graduate students who can perform accounting profession well, have  scientific and objective principles management skills, use the decision making skills with numerical calculations when necessary, make effective communication, apply strategies about management of companies’ sales and financial resources and increase their incomes, interpret and analyze country’s microeconomic and macroeconomic policies; and forms program curriculum for this purpose.


In this program, first year students take basic courses like Introduction to Business, Accounting, Business and Economics Mathematics, Economics, Basic Concepts of Law, Communication, Management and Organization, in addition to common core courses, Basic Computer, Turkish Language, Ataturk Principles and the History of Revolution, Foreign Language. Second year students take professional courses such as End Term Accounting Procedures, Organizational Theory and Behavior, Principles of Marketing, Production and Operations Management, Statistics, Commercıal Law, Corporate Accounting, Human Resources Management, Money and Banking, Marketing Management. Students who develop their knowledge on the chosen specialty according to their interests by choosing four elective courses in third year, two in each semester, concentrate on the field in fourth year by taking specialty related courses (Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Administration, Advertising, Sales Management etc.). Students who have successfully completed the Bachelor Thesis at the end of the fourth year will receive a Bachelor's Degree diploma.


The Department of Business Administrations of Nigde Omer Halisdemir University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences is located in the central campus area educates critical  and analytical thinking individuals with the use of well-equipped classes and computer labs.


Aim and Objectives

Aims

It is aimed to train professional personnel who have pioneered quality product and service by transferring basic business field knowledge to different levels of public and private sectors and have scientific management skills.


Objectives

Our main objectives of our department are to take place in the top 10 of the national level examinations, to increase the employment of graduates by training entrepreneurial, confident, equipped with necessary scientific and social skills, scientific thinking and leadership skills, capable of interdisciplinary cooperation, innovative and capable of providing unique solutions to problems graduates; producing national and internationally sponsored projects; writing publications in academically indexed magazines and books.

Level of Qualification and Qalification Awarded

Upon successful completion of this program, students are awarded with the qualification of BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION. 


A Bachelor's Degree Program in BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION is a 240 ECTS Credits, 4-year program. The program meets the requirements by both the ECTS credits and level descriptors of the first cycle degree qualifications of the Overarching Framework of European Qualifications Framework HE(QF-EHEA) and the 6th level qualifications of the Turkish Qualifications Framework for HE (TYYÇ, NQF-HETR). The level descriptors also meet the 6th level requirements of the qualifications of the European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (EQF-LLL).


Specific Admission Requirements

Turkish students are admitted to the BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION program according to the results of the Higher Education Entry (YGS) and Undergraduate Placement Examination (LYS) conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM). Those who are successful in LYS (Undergraduate Placement Exam) organized by OSYM are placed according to preference order of TM-1 scores.

Specific Arrangement s for Recognition of Prior Learning

With an understanding of lifelong learning, Nigde Omer Halisdemir University recognizes the previously taken courses in another institution and exempts them from graduation credit, as long as the courses match with the learning outcomes of the registered program at Nigde Omer Halisdemir University. The learning outcome match and the exemption are decided by the Faculty Board in line with the related laws and regulations.


Profile of the Programme

The Department of Business Administration has a responsibility of training individuals who may be independent accountants and financial advisers, self-employed and appointed to senior management positions in Public Institutions and Organizations in addition to aiming a contribution to the economy of the country and the quality of life as a result of consuming quality products and services by ensuring that the graduates who are preferred in the public and private companies in the service, tourism and industry sectors.


Undergraduate (Bachelor's Degree) program in Business Administration (First Cycle in QF-EHEA and 6th level in TYYÇ ) is an academically-oriented program giving access to degree and non-degree research program and professional practice demanding high levels of knowledge and skills. Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

The students who graduate from the department may have independent professions with the titles like independent accountant, financial adviser or they can work as a staff that is preferred in service (banking, tourism, health etc.) and industry sectors. Our graduates may find employment opportunities in private and public companies, banks, trust companies, tourism and industrial companies, multinational companies and audit companies. They can work in many areas such as accounting, finance, market research, production, marketing, after sales services, planning, management, internal auditing and auditing according to their interests and preferences. If they succeed in public personnel selection examinations (KPSS), they are appointed to career jobs such as inspector, controller, supervisor, expert etc. as well as senior management positions in the state institutions and organizations; or they may work as clerks. The graduates who meet relevant requirements can enter the administrative justice judgeship exam and if they succeed at the written exam by Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM) and the oral exam by The Ministry of Justice, they can take charge as administrative judge. Our graduates are able to do computer-based studies in various institutions with the computer skills they learned. Our graduates are employed in various scientific research institutions; they can conduct projects and be academician.  They may also develop an academic career by enrolling in related M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs of the universities in Turkey or abroad. At present, we found that most of our graduates work in government and foundation banks, work as financial advisors, work as academician, work as a government staff with a successful result of KPSS examination, work at customer relations of private companies, sales, marketing, accounting and call centers.


Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Gaining proficiency in Business Administration by graduating from the Business Administration undergraduate program requires; 

  • Completion of all the courses designated within the curriculum of the program, having a total of 240 ECTS Credits, with passing grades.
  • Achievement of a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.
Access to Further Studies

Upon successful completion of this program, students may apply to master’s (second cycle) and in some cases, to doctorate (third cycle) degree programs in or related fields of BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION. According to the National Regulations on Graduate Education, students are admitted to master’s programs by considering their undergraduate (first cycle degree) CGPAs and the scores of the Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) which centrally administered by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (OSYM). In this context, national regulations and regulations set by the senate of each institution will determine the weight of the ALES results in the overall scores of candidates. Depending on the regulations of the institutions, a certain level of foreign language proficiency is also required to be admitted to some programs.

Examinations

The extent to which students are successful in achieving the projected learning outcomes of each course unit in the BUSINESS program curriculum is measured by in-term activities and final exams at the end of each term.

 

The evaluation of in-term activities includes at least a number of midterm exams as a compulsory evaluation method for all courses in the undergraduate programs determined by the Regulations, assignment and a quiz where the course instructor approves.

 

Programs are encouraged to identify more assessment methods for the in-term activities, depending on the need to measure the success of the program and course-level outcomes in order to achieve program goals and objectives. The quality and number of the evaluation methods used for each course are given under the heading of "Assessment and Grading" in the course description sections together with contributions to the end-of-course grades. These are announced at the beginning of each semester, under the part of course descriptions on the University website.

 

Midterm and final exams are held on the date, place and time determined and announced by the University. The students’ final semester grades are given by the lecturers based on mid-term exam, assignment, quizzes, final exam and, if there is any other assessment results taking into account the students’ compliance with attendance to the course activities.

 

The contribution of the final exam to the end-of -semester grade is at least 40% and at most 60% for all courses in all undergraduate programs as determined by the Regulation.

 

Courses such as job replacement that do not require a midterm exam, assignment, quiz and / or final exam are notified by the administrations of the relevant departments and specific assessment and grading methods for these courses are announced through the above mentioned channels. The evaluation of such activities is carried out in line with the principles set by the Senate and assessed successful or unsuccessful.



Grading

The success of a student is assessed by the instructor for each assessment (in-term activities and final exam) defined for each course. The evaluation is based on a total score of 100 and is converted into a letter grade using the evaluation methodology determined by the Senate, taking into consideration the standard deviation of grades and grade poınt average of the class at the end of the semester.

Graduations Requirements
  • In order for a student to graduate from the BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION programme the following conditions must be met: 

    • Completion of all the courses designated within the curriculum of the programme, having a total of 240 ECTS Credits, with passing grades.
    • Achievement of a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Nigde Omer Halisdemir University is a full time / face to face program.
