The panel titled "Lessons to be Learned from the February 6 Kahramanmaraş Centered Earthquakes" was held at our university.
At the event, organized by our University's Disaster Education and Management Research and Application Center and our department, presentations were made to learn from the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes that occurred in February 2023 in our country and caused great loss of life and to provide information about the reality of earthquakes in our country.
Our Vice Rector Prof. Ersin Aydın made the opening speech of the conference. He stated that many earthquake disasters have occurred in the region where our country is located from the past to the present. In his speech, Aydın also said, “We have suffered a lot of loss of life and property in the earthquakes that have occurred in our country from past to present. Earthquake regulations have been prepared since the 1940s. "The latest 2018 regulation was issued and it is crucial to produce buildings by these regulations to prevent loss of life."
At the event, the Director of our University's Disaster Education and Management Research and Application Center and Head of the Department of Geological Engineering, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Korkanç presented a presentation titled "The Effects of Kahramanmaraş Centered Earthquakes on Niğde", Associate Professor of the Department of Architecture of our Faculty of Architecture. Dr. Hakan Karaca presented "Niğde Measurements and Evaluation of Ground Motions of Kahramanmaraş Centered Earthquakes". In the program, our University's faculty member of the Faculty of Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, Prof. Dr. Metin Hakan Severcan was explaining "Earthquake Damages and Causes", Professor of Civil Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering. Dr. Kubilay Akçaözoğlu made a presentation on "Material and Manufacturing Defects" in which he gave information about the use of materials in buildings that are not resistant to earthquakes.
The conference ended with the presentation of documents and a souvenir photo taken to commemorate the day.
