December 4th World Miners' Day Event
The Faculty of Mining Engineering Department of Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University celebrated World Miners' Day with a presentation/talk and a cocktail reception in the foyer area on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 3:30 PM in the Department Seminar Hall, with the participation of faculty members, students, alumni, and Kubilay Ünsal, the Niğde Provincial Representative of the Chamber of Mining Engineers.

"December 4th World Miners' Day" has its origins in a mythological narrative dating back to the Roman Empire (235-238/310-313 AD). According to the legend, Santa Barbara, fleeing from her father's tyranny and in dire straits, sought refuge in a mine in Nicomedia (Kocaeli/Izmit) in the province of Bithynia on December 4th, survived thanks to the help/solidarity of the miners, and is considered their patron saint.

Wishing for a mining sector where contemporary science and technology are applied, where fatal work accidents are absent, where labor/merit prevails, and which provides more added value to our country, we celebrate the 4th of December World Miners' Day with all our students and colleagues and extend our respects.
