What is Farabi Exchange Program?
Student and Academic Staff Exchange Program Between Higher Education Institutions,called briefly ''Farabi Exchange Program'', is a student and academic staff exchange program between Higher Education Institutions at the level of associate degree, undergraduate, master degree and doctorate within universities and higher technology institutes.. The Farabi Exchange Program aims to enable students or faculty members to continue their education and training activities at a higher education institution outside of their institutions during one or two semesters. The principles regarding the implementation of the Farabi Exchange Program have been elaborated by the Regulation and the Principles and Procedures.
Who is Farabi ? (871-950)
Farabi was born in 871 in Farab city of Turkestan. He had his primary education in Farab. He learnt Arabic, Persian, Greek and Latin well and read many times works of Aristotle and Plato .He received grammer and logic education from Ebu Bekr Serrac. Farabi devoted himself to philosophy and worked together with Yuhanna bin Haylan. He spent his time with writing his philosophical thoughts. He wrote his works in Arabic. He was a master of music. He was also the inventor of Kanun,a musical instrument. Furthermore,he developed an instrument called Rübap.He had many compositions. He studied Mathematic. Farabi classified sciences. Before he classified,sciences were divided into two parts as Trivium (triplet) and Huatrivium (quadruplet). Syntax,logic,pronouncement were in the part Trivium ; mathematic, geometry, music and astronomy were in the part Huatrivium. Farabi gathered sciences under three sections; physic,mathematic and metaphysic. His classification was accepted by European scholars in the thirteenth century. Farabi made first logical explanation of sound event consist of air vibrations. By doing experiments, he found that vibrations dicrease and increase according to wave lenght. Farabi, studying medicine at the same time, wrote works about various medical drugs. He was known as a philosopher came after Aristotle. He adapted ancient philosophy to new philosophy. Western philosophers like Montesgieu, Spinoza were impressed by Farabi’s works. Farabi, known as “Alpharabius” in Western world, died in Damascus in 950
