Teaching of artificial inseminations in domestic animals, evaluation of semen by microsobic and macroscobic methods, practise in semen freezing, synchronization of estrus, estrus detection, usage of hormones. This course will provide students with an understanding of reproductive biology in animals. The physiological basis for reproduction in animals, including livestock will be studied. Topics covered will include comparative structure and function of male and female reproductive systems; endocrine, neuroendocrine and environmental control of reproduction; development of the gametes, embryo, foetus and placenta; and pregnancy and parturition. How the understanding of reproductive physiology informs the management of reproduction and fertility in animals and provides the basis for reproductive technologies including artificial insemination and embryo transfer will be studied.

This course will offer methods to use natural resources more diverse and effectively in order to preserve biodiversity for a more cost efficient and sustainable breeding in which livestock help to preserve the land and environment for future generations. Definitions of sustainable livestock production usually include references to economical, social and environmental facts that aims to achieve sustainability in all aspects. In addition to those considerations, sustainable livestock production also needs to address animal welfare issues. Keys to sustainable livestock production include extensive preplanning, knowledge of ones goals, understanding of marketing options and the ability to review and adapt plans as needed. This course is a brief introduction to the concept of sustainable livestock production with high biodiversity and good welfare for animals concept.

Mitigation practices on greenhouse gas emissions, sustainable and efficient livestock production. This course will present a distinctive and exhaustive knowledge on mitigation practices for greenhouse gas emissions in the livestock sector. It will focus specifically on nonCO2 emissions from enteric fermentation and manure management. By teaching emission reduction interventions for the sector the students will also get a detailed understanding of their effect on factors such as costs, competitiveness and risks incurred by stakeholders along the supply chain, but also of their impact on other environmental goods and services such as water resources or biodiversity. This broader evaluation will help to craft interventions that can deliver multiple societal objectives of the sector, which include food security, economic development and environmental sustainability.

To integrate assisted reproduction technologies to field studies for breeding programs as well as new genetics introduction. The application of assisted reproduction technologies enables the rate of genetic progress to be increased. This course will summarize principles of reproduction, AI, estrus synchronization methods, MOET, cryobiological principles and developments. Will also discuss various cryoprotectants and freezing techniques and describe the process of vitrification as well as physiologic process of oocyte maturation, collection, and identification of immature oocytes, and describe the in vitro maturation process. Students will be able to identify the different types of assisted reproduction methods, discuss the application and advantages and disadvantages of advanced reproductive technologies in small ruminants.
