Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies organized a “Meeting with Sector Representatives” event on Wednesday, 26.03.2025.

In the program that brings together students of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technology and leading public and private sector representatives in the field of agriculture, and offers our students the opportunity to gain experience, gain experience, gain a glimpse into the agricultural sector, find internships and find job opportunities, our speakers this week were Bor Sugar Factory Deputy General Manager Mr. Orhan CAN and Human Resources Manager Mr. Yiğit ALTUNTECİM.

“What is sugar produced from?”

The sugar we consume in daily life is produced from sugar cane and sugar beet. While 78% of the total sugar production is produced from sugar cane, 22% is produced from sugar beet. There is no significant difference in quality and taste between the sugars produced. However, another sugar produced, starch-based sugars using corn syrup, are quite harmful to human health and should be avoided.

“Bor Sugar”

Bor Sugar Factory is a very deep-rooted factory and after its privatization, it has aimed to renew itself and always do forward-looking work. Bor Sugar, which has approximately 33 factories in our country, aims to progress in the light of science and to always renew itself with its mechanization at the level of world countries.

“Professional groups and job opportunities that can work at Bor Sugar”

Food, chemical, mechanical, electrical and electronic engineers, laboratory technicians and agricultural engineers are employed in our production facilities. Although each of them has a different field of work, agricultural engineers work intensively in the production and harvest section as well as in fertilizer production and marketing. The issues we pay attention to during recruitment are as follows. Graduation from an educational institution, some certificates, high communication skills and foreign language proficiency, especially English, are among the issues to be considered during recruitment. Advice for those who will go to the interview; first of all, you should go by caring a little bit about yourself, research the CV of the institution you are going to the interview with and the works you have done before going, express yourself well and convey how much you want the job to the other party.

In addition, there are internships being recruited at the factory and we would like to support you in the events to be held. We would like to hold the next meeting at our production facility.

“Closing the program”

At the end of our program, which was held with the intense participation of our students, our dean Prof. Dr. Ahmet ŞEKEROĞLU presented certificates of appreciation to our speakers Mr. Orhan CAN and Yiğit ALTUNTECİM and thanked the participants and our speaker and concluded the program.
