Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies continues its work in line with its goal of disseminating sustainable agriculture and environmentally friendly production practices. To address this deficiency, bumblebee (Bombus terrestris) release was carried out in our experimental greenhouses to minimize chemical expression, protect the ecosystem, and protect the product.
Bumblebees have a critical function in pollination, especially in greenhouses, for crops such as tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants. Connecting natural pollination methods to production processes is of great importance in terms of sustainability.
Natural and Hormone-Free Production: The effective pollination activity of bumblebees eliminates the need for plant growth programs (hormones) and chemical use. This directly contributes to the protection of ecological health and reliable food production. Thanks to their pollination rates, they facilitate pollen transfer and high yields. This process, along with increased fruit yield, ensures the production of products with regular shapes, standard sizes, and higher market value. Compared to honeybees, they have a much higher adaptation capacity in enclosed greenhouses. Even in enclosed conditions with low capacity and insufficient sunlight, they can continuously carry out pollen collection activities.
Compared to artificial pollination and other manual interventions, they significantly prevent loss and ensure preservation; they optimize the production costs of the system.
Our faculty, while transferring modern biological control and natural pollination techniques through practical training, continues to implement innovative and environmentally friendly production models in the field that will serve as an example for regional agriculture.
