The opening program of the “Medical and Aromatic Plant Cultivation” course, prepared in cooperation with Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies, Ayhan Şahenk Agricultural Application and Research Center, Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Turkey, Niğde Public Education Center and Niğde Hüdavend Hatun Women's Initiative and Production Cooperative, was held in our faculty conference hall on 18/04/2025.
The opening of the Medicinal and Aromatic Plant Cultivation training started with the speech of Prof. Dr. Ahmet ŞEKEROĞLU, Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of the training and stated that it would be supported by applications. He concluded his speech by stating that the participants would be provided with theoretical and practical information on the importance of medicinal and aromatic plants, soil preparation, seedling planting, care, etc. in cultivation.
The program included Res. Asst. Ramazan İlhan AYTEKİN emphasized that plants are indispensable living beings for human life and provided general information on the importance of medicinal and aromatic plants, the importance of which is increasing in agricultural production in our country and in the world, their cultivation, general situation in the world and in our country, areas of use and classification. He stated that our country has a rich vegetation due to its geographical location, climate and soil characteristics. He mentioned the characteristics of plants cultivated in our country in general (lavender, St. John's Wort, sage, black cumin, saffron etc.) and provided information on climate and soil requirements, production techniques, maintenance conditions, yield, harvest and drying conditions, consumption and areas of use.
