Academic Development Seminars – 8: The Importance of the Honeybee (Apis Mellilifera)
Within the scope of the “Academic Development Seminars” program, a presentation titled “The Importance of the Honeybee (Apis Mellifera)” was given by Research Assistant Muhammed Talha İNCE, a faculty member of the Department of Animal Production and Technologies at our faculty.
The presentation began with an emphasis on the taxonomy and population structure of the honeybee, as well as its place in agriculture. It discussed how honeybees are used in animal production and how they provide benefits in the pollination and fertilization stages of plant production. Information was provided on the main pests affecting honeybees. The presentation continued with information on honeybee care, maintenance, and important considerations in honey production. The presentation also touched upon the unconscious use of pesticides, climate change, and incorrect agricultural practices in honeybee farming, which threaten honeybee populations today. It was emphasized that taking precautions against these negative issues, especially ensuring that producers who want to engage in honeybee farming successfully complete training provided by experts before starting this business, has a significant positive impact on the health and continuity of honeybee populations.
At the end of the presentation, the audience's opinions on the topic were solicited and their questions were answered. The program concluded with our Dean, Prof. Dr. Ahmet ŞEKEROĞLU, presenting Research Assistant Muhammed Talha İNCE with a certificate of appreciation for his presentation.
