Life in Nigde
Nigde, which was known as "NAHITA" in ancient times, is situated in the south-east of Central Anatolia Region, Turkey with the population of 350.000. The city has cultural remains belonging to the earliest people dating back to the 600,000 B.C. It has emerged from ongoing archaeological excavations that there have still been many settlements in Nigde from 10,000 years ago in the Neolithic and Chalcolithic Ages to the present day. In addition, it is known as the gate of Cappadocia, which is famous for fairy chimneys and natural remains, and so the city is touristy and attracts many tourists every year from all over the world.
Niğde is surrounded with the cities of Kayseri, Nevşehir, Aksaray, Konya, Adana and Mersin. Therefore; we can say that Nigde is in a very convenient location as for travelling for sightseeing in other cities at the weekends. The fundamental income source is agriculture, animal husbandry and industry. The city is famous for delicious apples and potatoes. When you wander in the plateaus out of the city center you can see the apple trees around. It is also an important center of traditional handicrafts. The carpets waved in Nigde are sold all over the world. There are also natural spa centers with the modern accommodation complexes in towns belonging to Nigde. Furthermore, with its university, health and educational institutions, natural beauties and mountain climbing and camping centers, Nigde is a very modern, well-established city at the heart of Turkey.
