Course Objective
To give information about power electronics (PEs) and the basic structures, analyses, and applications of power electronic systems
Brief Content of the Course
Definition, scope, and application areas of PE. Types, characteristics, operation principles, protection, data sheet catalogs, and application notes of power semiconductor switches (Diodes-Thyristors/SCRs-Diacs-Triacs-BJT-MOSFET-GTO-IGBT-MCT-SIT). Review of basic electrical circuit concepts from the PEs point of view. 1-3 phase uncontrolled/controlled rectifiers with R-RL-RLE loads. AC choppers. Cycloconverters. DC choppers. 1-3 phase inverters.
