Course Objective
This course aims to develop students’ public speaking and effective listening skills by combining theoretical knowledge with intensive practice. It seeks to equip students with the ability to analyze audiences, select and develop appropriate topics, conduct effective research, organize and deliver speeches using suitable methods of delivery, and employ verbal and non-verbal communication strategies effectively. The course also aims to enhance students’ competence in informative and persuasive speaking, special occasion speeches, group communication, online speaking contexts, and structured interactive tasks such as debates, interviews, and role-plays.
Brief Content of the Course
The course covers the fundamentals of public speaking, including audience analysis, topic selection, research skills, source citation, and methods of delivery. Students learn how to organize speeches, develop effective introductions and conclusions, and use appropriate language, voice, and body language. The course also includes presentation aids, informative and persuasive speaking, listening skills, special occasion speeches, online speaking, and group communication. Practical components consist of an individual presentation, an interview task, a debate, a role-play task, a group presentation, and a special occasion speech.
