Course Objective
The objective is to convey to students that language is a dynamic communicative medium with diverse properties; to teach which phonemes constitute English, how these sounds are combined and altered in spoken discourse, and the importance of such phonological knowledge and skills for intelligible speech; to explain how morphemic elements are structured and how lexical productivity is achieved; to examine the logical ordering of words within a sentence; and to demonstrate how syntactic constituents are formally represented within formal linguistics.
