Course Objective
This course aims to introduce students to key concepts of media, communication, and journalism. Students will analyze different types of media and their roles in society, develop skills in evaluating and interpreting media content critically, and apply language-focused strategies to understand and produce media texts. The course also explores the differences between traditional and new media, including social media platforms, and examines advertising and marketing language and its effects on audiences. Students will foster practical skills in media analysis, writing, and presentation.
Brief Content of the Course
The course covers communication theories, the role of mass media, and media literacy. It examines language use in traditional and new media, media storytelling, print and broadcast journalism, social media, and advertising. Throughout the course, students will practice analyzing media texts, comparing language across media types, and applying language and critical thinking skills to create and interpret media content.
