Course Objective
This course aims to provide prospective English language teachers with practical experience by enabling them to learn the concepts of curriculum and course content, select and evaluate instructional materials, and develop materials appropriate for language skills within the framework of different language teaching methods
Brief Content of the Course
Designing instructional materials in English language teaching: theories and principles (e.g., material selection, adaptation, development, evaluation); supportive and opposing views on the use of coursebooks; the relationship between method, ideology, and the perspective of the coursebook author; criteria considered in material selection: students’ language proficiency level, learnability, practical use, cultural content, suitability for communicative interaction, and functionality of language use; materials that facilitate learners’ interaction with teachers and peers, corpus-based, authentic, and contextualized in real-life situations; adaptation and development practices for language teaching, reorganization of coursebook materials according to specific learner needs and instructional conditions; pre-service teachers’ design of original teaching materials and supplementary resources suitable for the current school environment, student levels, and requirements; material evaluation, criteria for evaluating the use of coursebooks in language classrooms; contemporary approaches to the analysis of language teaching materials and coursebooks
