Course Objective
Describe metamorphism and metamorphic processes, the relationship between metamorphism and plate tectonics, textural features of metamorphic rocks, thermodynamic properties of the metamorphic reactions, the relationship between metamorphism and protolith.
Brief Content of the Course
Definition and types of the metamorphism. Advanced study of metamorphic minerals and rocks, detailed study of petrography and petrochemistry of metamorphic rocks. Metamorphic Facies concept and its general application to global tectonics. Petrogenesis of contact, dynamic, regional and burial metamorphism. Metasomatism. Relationship between metamorphism and tectonic events. Distribution of metamorphic rocks in Turkey.
