Course Objective
To provide an understanding of the political, military, administrative, and socio-economic developments that occurred from the establishment to the collapse of the Great Seljuk Empire; to enable students to evaluate Seljuk history comprehensively and to develop the ability to analyze it in terms of state organisation, social structure, and foreign relations.
Brief Content of the Course
The Oghuz tribes and their migrations, the founding of the Great Seljuk Empire, the Battle of Dandanakan, and the reigns of Tughril, Alp Arslan, Malik Shah, and Sanjar, as well as the state's organisation and the relations between the Crusader states and the Seljuks.
