Course Objective
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the main concepts of the field known as Discourse Analysis and to raise awareness of the relationship between discourse analysis and language teaching.
Brief Content of the Course
In this course, methods such as lecturing, question-and-answer sessions, discussions, analyses of different discourse types, and practical activities are used to enable student teachers to analyze coherence and cohesion in texts by investigating natural language use in language skills and teaching practices. Students develop analytical and practical skills by choosing a discourse genre or type, conducting a detailed analysis, and presenting their interpretations in class. In addition, students gain an understanding of the meaning, connotations, and effects of literary and non-literary written and oral texts based on language use characteristics. They comprehend the relationship between form, language use properties, and content in various texts, and compare literary and non literary texts.
